Energy Conservation and Green Building Programs for Residents
Energy efficiency, green building, water conservation and healthy homes: these are all priorities of increasing importance to our community. ACTION-Housing Green was created to help the public learn how to build more sustainable lifestyles. By being mindful of our use of natural resources and the composition of materials we bring into our homes, we will begin to meet our goals of lowering utility and water usage and costs, reducing our carbon footprint, and limiting our exposure to toxins in building and cleaning materials. These are all essential elements of sustainability. Most importantly, they are achievable with just a little effort on our part.
ACTION-Housing Green is a gateway for homeowners and renters interested in living more sustainably. Collaborating with key local, national and international partners, ACTION-Housing is working to ensure that all people have the opportunity to learn energy conservation tips, house weatherization, ways to lower utility bills, and more. From the Weatherization Assistance Program to community classes, we are proud to serve our neighbors in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
The Weatherization Assistance Program and Pittsburgh Green House are central components of ACTION-Housing's commitment to expanding the knowledge of energy efficiency and green building practices throughout the region.
Weatherization Assistance Program
Home weatherization is an essential skill that can help homeowners achieve energy conservation. ACTION-Housing works with the US Department of Energy to provide free air sealing and furnace work for qualified low-income applicants in order to lower utility bills and help create a healthy home.
Pittsburgh Green House
Learn about green building from some of the area's leaders in sustainability. ACTION-Housing is teaming up with Phipps Conservatory and the Green Building Alliance to create the Pittsburgh Green House, a contractor training facility and community resource center for affordable and sustainable homes.
