Impact of ACTION-Housing, Inc. and Energy Efficiency and Conservation

Providing energy conservation solutions and lower utility bills for low-income households in Western Pennsylvania have been top priorities of ACTION-Housing Inc. since becoming a Weatherization Assistance Program provider in 1982. Between 1982 and 2010, ACTION-Housing's Weatherization efforts have resulted in over 25,000 homes becoming more efficient and less expensive to operate. Since 2007, ACTION-Housing Inc. has expanded our energy conservation and water conservation efforts by developing green building programs for the general public and for multi-family affordable housing throughout Western Pennsylvania.

• Lower utility bills and surplus dollars to meet other essential needs of low-income residents
• Improved health of the residents
• Communities knowledgeable about energy conservation and sustainable living
• Greener jobs in Southwestern PA

 

These methods will give us the power to reach a much larger segment of the population. There is even an opportunity to extend our best practices and experience into other building types and even regional manufacturing.
